Our Story
At Windward Smiles, our story begins and continues with family. Dr. Russell Kim, a lifelong Windward resident and Kailua native, opened his Kāneʻohe practice in 1993 with a simple but powerful mission: to care for local families with compassion, integrity and a deep commitment to prevention and wellness.
Inspired by his uncle, a pediatric dentist and founder of Kim Pediatric Dentistry who served the community for decades, Dr. Kim built a practice where patients are treated like extended ‘ohana — not just for today, but for the long term. Over 30 years later, that same spirit of aloha and clinical excellence continues through a new generation, as Dr. Kim’s son, Dr. Riley Kim, joins the team to carry on the family legacy.

Meet the Kim ‘Ohana
Russell P. Kim, DDS
A Kailua native, Dr. Russell Kim earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Loma Linda University and opened his family dental practice in Kāneʻohe in 1993. For more than three decades, he has been dedicated to caring for the Windward community with a strong emphasis on prevention, education, and long-term oral health.
Dr. Kim’s philosophy was shaped early on while observing and working with his uncle, Dr. Howard Kim, a pediatric dentist. That experience inspired a lifelong commitment to addressing the root causes of oral disease rather than simply treating symptoms — helping patients avoid costly procedures and enjoy a better quality of life.
Dr. Kim is a longtime member of the American Dental Association and the Hawaiʻi Dental Association. His wife, Joyceline, holds a degree in dental hygiene. Together, they have three sons — Ryan, Riley, and Reid — and enjoy spending time playing music with family and friends, teaching children ukulele and guitar, surfing, and golfing.
Dr. Riley Kim, DDS
Born and raised in Kailua, Dr. Riley Kim is proud to serve the Windward community he has always called home. After completing his early education in Hawaiʻi, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Loma Linda University, continuing a family tradition rooted in compassionate, prevention-focused care.
Dr. Kim enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, with particular emphasis on prevention, minimally invasive treatment, and helping patients feel comfortable and confident throughout their care. His calm demeanor, thoughtful approach, and attention to detail allow him to build trust and create positive dental experiences for adult patients.
Outside the office, Dr. Kim enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing music, and taking advantage of the Windward side lifestyle — whether surfing, hiking, or relaxing at the beaches he grew up visiting. He is honored to continue his family’s legacy of service and is deeply committed to supporting lifelong oral health in the community he loves.
Location & Parking
Convenient patient parking is available at the Adventist Castle Professional Building, where Windward Smiles is located. You can access the parking area from Liliʻipuna Road, as it sits directly behind the building. Please park in any general visitor parking space. After parking, use the crosswalk to enter the Adventist Castle Professional Building and take the elevator or stairs to the 4th floor. Our office is located in Suite 415.
